Announcing Nuro’s Location in Toronto

Sep 21, 2021

We have a massive goal: to better everyday life through robotics. And that means we’re always looking for the brightest minds to work with.

To that end, we’re happy to announce that Steven Waslander, Associate Professor, Institute for Aerospace Studies and Director, Toronto Robotics and AI Laboratory is partnering with Nuro on our journey. Steven is an expert in autonomous aerial and ground vehicles, including simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM), object detection and autonomous driving.

Steven’s passion for autonomous vehicles extends beyond the thrill of seeing technology in action to the fundamental belief that this solution can indeed positively impact communities around the world, from improving air quality to alleviating the burdens placed on those who don’t have access to cars. His work on autonomous vehicles has resulted in the Autonomoose, the first autonomous vehicle created at a Canadian University to drive on public roads. Steven is actively researching 3D object detection and tracking, as well as volumetric simultaneous localization and mapping, two areas that are invaluable to widespread deployment of AVs on public roads.

Nuro is also excited to announce we’ll be opening a Toronto office. As our first engineering office outside the Bay Area, we’re looking forward to becoming more acquainted with Toronto’s enormous talent pool and establishing a location that can support their efforts. This Canadian presence is another step towards building a superlative engineering team — all in service of our ultimate goal.

Nuro is actively hiring across autonomy teams in Toronto, and we plan to add many more engineering positions in years to come. If you’re interested in working with people such as Professor Waslander as Nuro prepares to deploy its autonomous vehicles at scale, apply at www.nuro.ai/careers.
